Given the current troubles with the Covid virus and not wanting to ride on airplanes, we decided on a driving trip across through the Intermountain West. We visited Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon. Our travels took place over three weeks in June and July 2021. We also traveled for about two weeks with two good friends who live near us.
We drove from home to Ely Nevada, and Great Basin National Park on US 50, the Loneliest Road.
We drove across Utah on I-70 and stopped at Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. We also drove on the Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway.
We traveled to Montrose, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Grand Junction and Colorado National Monument.
From Vernal we drove through Flaming Gorge and Teton Valley, to Victor, ID. Then we traveled via West Yellowstone to Helena, Montana’s capital city.
We drove from Helena to Two Medicinie and Many Glacier in Glacier National Park, where we stayed three nights.
We spent three more days exploring Glacier National Park, and also visited Whitefish, Montana.
We next visited the National Bison Range and Missoula, before taking a scenic byway on the Salmon River in Idaho to the small town of Stanley.
We traveled through the Sawtooth Range to Twin Falls, ID, and drove home from there via Winnemuca.
