Departure and Travel to Malaysia
January 7-10, 2024
We left San Francisco and flew on Japan Air Lines to Narita near Tokyo. The flight was ten hours in length. We landed about 4 p.m. local time (11 p.m. at home). We stayed at the Japan Air Lines/Nikko Hotel very close to the airport for our morning flight tomorrow to Kuala Lumpur.

We were surprised by the festive display of holiday lights in the Tokyo hotel grounds, even though it was January 9th.
The next morning, Wednesday the 10th, we took a Malaysia Air flight to Kuala Lumpur, about an 8 hour flight. We landed about 5:15 p.m. local time. Then we took a one hour car ride to our hotel near Petronas Towers and arrived just before sunset.

The total distance from SFO to KUL was 8,481 miles, about 18 flight hours, and breaking it up with a night in Japan made it manageable.
Tomorrow we start our exploration of Peninsular Malaysia.
