We decided to return to New Zealand for three weeks in February 2025, visiting both the South and North Islands. We had last visited in 2015, almost exactly ten years ago.
We flew from SFO to Auckland where we spent one night. We then flew on to the Nation’s capital, Wellington for three nights.
We flew to Nelson, picked up a rental car, and spent three nights between Nelson and Kaiteriteri, gateway to Abel Tasman National Park.
We drove south to the West Coast, visiting Punakaiki and Greymouth, and then venturing over Arthur’s Pass.
We spent two nights in the West Coast town of Hokitika, visiting the sights in the area before heading south to Franz Josef/Waiau.
We spent our last day in the Bay of Islands seeing land-based sights, and the next day drove to Auckland for our flight back to SFO.
